Why choose us

Benefits of Dental Cleaning

Fresher, Healthier Smile

We gently remove plaque and tartar buildup that daily brushing and flossing can miss.

Catch Problems Early

Regular cleanings give our team a chance to spot cavities and early signs of gum disease before they become bigger concerns.

Care for All Ages

We see children and adults, so the whole family can keep their smiles on track in one office.

Comfort Options Available

If dental visits make you anxious, we offer sedation options, including nitrous oxide, to help you relax.

Flexible Ways to Pay

We accept all major PPO plans and self-pay patients, and financing is available.

It has been a while since your last appointment. Maybe your gums bleed a little when you floss, a coffee stain has started to show along your front teeth, or you simply know you are overdue. That is exactly the situation a dental cleaning is designed for. At 805 Dentistry in Thousand Oaks, routine cleanings are the foundation of the care we provide to children and adults of every age, and they are often the first step toward keeping the rest of your dental care simple.

A professional dental cleaning removes the plaque and hardened buildup, called tartar or calculus, that brushing and flossing at home cannot fully reach. Plaque that stays on teeth hardens over time. Once it does, a toothbrush will not remove it, and our hygiene team uses dedicated instruments to clear it from around and just below the gumline. We then polish the teeth to smooth the surfaces and lift surface stains.

Cleanings help nearly everyone. Our general practice sees patients from early childhood through their senior years. Our pediatric care focuses on kids ages 4 to 14, and parents are welcome in the treatment room. Adults who come in regularly use cleanings to stay on track. Patients who have been away from the dentist for years use them as a starting point. Because we are a one-stop shop for the whole family, many households schedule their cleanings together.

At your first visit, we pair your cleaning with a dental exam so we can see the full picture of your oral health. Dr. Dar Radfar and our team look for signs of cavities, gum inflammation, worn or cracked teeth, and other changes. We also include an oral cancer screening as part of thorough preventive care. When imaging is needed, we can take it here in our office.

What we find shapes the rest of the visit. A patient with healthy gums typically receives a standard cleaning and polish. For children, we may recommend a fluoride treatment or dental sealants to help protect developing teeth. If we see deeper pockets around the teeth or signs of gum disease, we will explain why a standard cleaning may not be enough. In that case, we may recommend scaling and root planing, a deeper cleaning below the gumline.

Is a dental cleaning uncomfortable?

For most patients, a routine cleaning is not painful. You may feel some pressure and scraping, and gums that are already inflamed can feel tender. We work at a pace that suits you, and you can ask us to pause at any time.

If anxiety has kept you away from the dentist, tell us. We offer nitrous oxide sedation, along with oral and IV sedation, and a board-certified dental anesthesiologist is on our staff. Not every patient needs these options for a cleaning. For patients who find dental visits difficult, they can make it possible to get care they might otherwise put off.

What should I do after my cleaning, and when should I come back?

You can usually return to your normal routine right away. Your teeth may feel smooth, and your gums may be slightly sensitive for a day or so, especially if there was significant buildup.

The real work happens between visits. Before you leave, we will talk with you about anything specific we noticed and how to address it at home. Some situations call for closer follow-up:

  • Gums that bleed regularly when you brush or floss
  • A history of gum disease or past deep cleanings
  • Dental implants that need ongoing care
  • Grinding or clenching, which a night guard may help protect against
  • New sensitivity, jaw discomfort, or changes in your bite

Patients with a history of gum disease may move to a periodontal maintenance schedule instead of standard cleanings. A board-certified periodontist on our team supports that care, including implant maintenance. If your exam points to something else, such as TMJ concerns or a cracked tooth, we can often address it within our own practice instead of sending you elsewhere.

How do I pay for a dental cleaning?

We accept all major PPO insurance plans, and many plans include coverage for preventive visits like cleanings and exams. Our team can help you understand how your benefits apply before your appointment.

If you do not have insurance, we welcome self-pay patients, and financing is available for patients who need it. That flexibility can be especially helpful if your cleaning leads to recommendations for further treatment. We will go over your options clearly so you can decide what works for you.
