If you've been hiding your smile in photos because of crowded or gapped teeth, or you've thought about straightening but can't picture yourself in metal brackets, clear aligners may be the option you've been looking for. At 805 Dentistry in Thousand Oaks, we offer clear aligners, including Invisalign, as part of our orthodontic care for both teens and adults. We guide you from your first conversation through the retainer that keeps your new smile in place.
Clear aligners are a series of thin, removable trays made from smooth, transparent material. Each set is shaped to move your teeth gradually toward a planned final position. You wear one set for a period of time and then switch to the next. Every new tray continues the work of the one before it, so your smile changes in small, steady steps instead of all at once.
Because the trays are nearly invisible, many people choose them because they want to straighten their teeth without changing how they look at work, in class, or around friends. Since you can take them out, you can still eat your favorite foods and brush and floss the way you always have. Plenty of our patients also like that there are no brackets or wires to work around during daily care.
Clear aligners can help with a wide range of alignment concerns, such as crowding, spacing, and many bite issues. Every mouth is different, though. Some situations respond better to traditional braces, which we also offer. Because we provide both options under one roof, our recommendation is based on what will work best for your teeth, not on the only tool we have.
Your evaluation starts with a thorough look at your teeth, gums, and jaw. We have access to 2D and 3D dental imaging, along with digital smile design, which helps us plan your treatment and show you where your smile is headed. Healthy gums and teeth matter before any tooth movement begins. If we find a cavity or signs of gum disease, we'll take care of that first so your aligner treatment starts on a strong foundation.
Am I a good candidate for clear aligners?
You may be a good candidate if you have mild to moderate alignment concerns and you're ready to wear your trays consistently. Commitment matters as much as the teeth themselves. Aligners only work while they're in your mouth, so they need to be worn for most of the day and removed mainly for eating, drinking anything other than water, and cleaning.
Here are a few things we encourage every patient to think about before starting:
- You'll need to wear your aligners for the recommended hours each day, which we'll review with you.
- You'll brush your teeth before putting your trays back in to keep food from being trapped against your teeth.
- You'll keep track of your trays and switch sets on the schedule we give you.
- You'll come in for periodic check-ins so we can confirm your teeth are moving as planned.
We also welcome orthodontic transfer patients. If you started treatment with another provider and moved to the Conejo Valley or nearby communities like Simi Valley, Camarillo, or Westlake Village, we can review where you are and help you continue.
What happens after my clear aligner treatment ends?
After your final set of aligners, you'll move into the retention phase, which is essential for protecting your results. Teeth naturally tend to drift back toward their old positions, especially in the months after they've been moved. A retainer holds them where they belong.
We'll explain how and when to wear your retainer and how to keep it clean. We also provide retainers for patients who were treated somewhere else, so if you finished orthodontic treatment years ago and lost or broke your retainer, we can help you get a replacement. Regular cleanings and exams with our team give us a chance to keep an eye on your bite and the health of your gums over time. Your aligner results then become part of your long-term dental care, not a one-time project.
How can I pay for clear aligners?
We make paying for treatment as straightforward as possible. We accept all major PPO insurance plans, and our team can help you understand how your coverage applies to orthodontic care. We also welcome self-pay patients.
If you'd like to spread out the cost, financing is available. We'll walk through your options at your consultation so you can make a comfortable decision before treatment begins. Because 805 Dentistry is a one-stop shop for the whole family, you can also coordinate aligner care alongside cleanings, whitening, or other treatments in a single familiar office.
Whether you live in Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park, Moorpark, Agoura Hills, or anywhere nearby, Dr. Dar Radfar and our team would love to talk with you about your smile goals. Reach out to schedule your clear aligner consultation, and let's find out together whether this is the right path for you.
