Your seven-year-old mentions that a back tooth feels "funny" when she drinks something cold. Your ten-year-old just made the soccer team. Your five-year-old is nervous about anything involving a dentist's chair. These everyday moments are exactly why families in Thousand Oaks and nearby communities bring their children to us. At 805 Dentistry, we care for kids ages 4 to 14 in the same office where parents and grandparents receive their own care, so the whole family's dental needs can be handled under one roof.
Pediatric dentistry is dental care tailored to children as their teeth, jaws, and habits develop. For the children we see, ages 4 through 14, that development is constant. Baby teeth loosen and fall out, permanent molars arrive, and the bite gradually takes its adult shape. Our role is to keep teeth healthy through each of those stages, catch small problems while they are still small, and help children feel comfortable with dental visits.
Families come to us for many reasons, and each calls for a slightly different approach. Some of the most common include:
- Routine dental exams and cleanings to monitor growth and keep teeth healthy
- Cavity detection and dental fillings when decay appears
- Dental sealants and fluoride treatment to help protect teeth from decay
- Space maintainers when a baby tooth is lost early
- Sports mouth guards for young athletes
- Urgent visits for a chipped tooth, toothache, or injury
Dr. Dar Radfar leads our practice, and because we see patients of all ages, children grow up with a team that already knows their family.
Many young patients feel uneasy at first, and we treat that feeling as something to work with rather than rush past. Parents are welcome in the treatment room, so your child can see a familiar face throughout the visit. For many children, simply having mom or dad nearby turns an unfamiliar experience into a manageable one.
We also take time to explain what we are doing in words children understand, and we move at a pace that suits them. For children who need additional help relaxing during treatment, we offer nitrous oxide sedation, often called "laughing gas." Our team also includes a board-certified dental anesthesiologist, and we provide other sedation options for patients with dental anxiety. We will talk with you about whether any of these options makes sense for your child.
What should parents know before their child's visit?
The most helpful thing to know is that early, regular visits give us the best chance to address concerns before they become bigger problems. A filling for a small cavity is typically a simpler appointment than treatment for decay that has been left to progress. Regular exams let us watch for those changes over time.
It also helps to share your child's health history, any medications, and anything you have noticed at home, such as sensitivity, bleeding gums, or a tooth that seems crooked as it comes in. If your child plays sports, mention it so we can talk about protection. If we notice that the bite or tooth alignment may benefit from attention later, our office also offers orthodontic care, including traditional braces and clear aligners, so you will not need to search elsewhere for those conversations.
What happens if my child has a dental emergency?
If your child has a dental emergency, call our office right away. We offer emergency dental appointments. Children's mouths take plenty of bumps from playground falls, bike accidents, and sports, and a chipped or knocked tooth can be frightening for everyone.
Our office includes a board-certified endodontist who treats traumatic dental injuries and cracked teeth. This means that if an injury is more involved, specialized care is available within our practice. Bring any tooth fragments you find, and we will guide you through the next steps.
How do we keep results going at home, and how does payment work?
Healthy results depend on teamwork between our office and your home. Brushing twice a day, helping younger children with flossing, and limiting sugary snacks and drinks all support the care we provide. Sealants and fluoride help protect teeth, but they work best alongside consistent daily habits and regular checkups. After a filling or other treatment, we will give you clear aftercare instructions specific to your child's visit.
On cost, we accept all major PPO insurance plans and file claims for our pediatric care as a general practice. We also welcome self-pay patients, and financing is available for families who would like to spread out the cost of treatment. Our team is happy to review your coverage and explain your options before any care begins, so there are no surprises.
How do we schedule our child's first visit?
Simply contact our office, and we will help you find a time that works for your family. We welcome children from Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park, Westlake Village, Simi Valley, Moorpark, Camarillo, Agoura Hills, and the surrounding area. Many families schedule siblings or parents on the same day to make the trip easier.
We would love to meet your child and help them build a healthy, confident relationship with dental care that lasts for years to come. Reach out today to book an appointment with our team at 805 Dentistry.
