Maybe you lost a back tooth years ago and have learned to chew on the other side. Maybe a front tooth cracked beyond repair, or a partial denture that once felt fine now shifts every time you laugh. These are the moments when patients from Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park, Simi Valley, and the surrounding communities come to us asking about dental implants. We believe the best decision starts with understanding the treatment clearly, so here is what we want you to know.

A dental implant is a small post placed in the jawbone where a tooth root used to be. Once it is secure, it supports a replacement tooth, so the restoration is anchored below the gumline rather than resting on the gums or relying on neighboring teeth. Implants can support a single crown, an implant-supported bridge spanning several missing teeth, or a full arch of teeth through options such as All-on-4, All-on-6, and All-on-X treatment.

Because implants come in so many configurations, they help a wide range of people. We see implants make sense in situations like these:

  • A single tooth lost to injury, decay, or a failed root canal
  • Several missing teeth in a row that would otherwise require a removable partial
  • A full arch of missing or failing teeth, where full arch or full mouth implants may be appropriate
  • Denture wearers who want more stability through implant-supported or snap-in dentures

Each of these paths looks a little different, and part of our job is helping you understand which ones fit your mouth, your goals, and your budget.

At 805 Dentistry, implant care is led by a team with deep experience in the gums and bone that support your teeth. Our office includes a board-certified periodontist who places dental implants and provides ongoing implant maintenance. Planning begins with imaging, and we offer CBCT imaging along with 2D and 3D dental imaging, overseen by a board-certified oral and maxillofacial radiologist on staff. Detailed 3D views help us evaluate bone volume and nearby anatomy before any treatment begins.

We also have an on-site dental lab, which allows close coordination between the clinical team and the work that goes into your restoration. For patients who feel nervous about dental procedures, our board-certified dental anesthesiologist offers nitrous oxide, oral sedation, IV sedation, and general anesthesia. Having these services under one roof means fewer referrals and a more connected experience from planning through your final tooth.

Am I a good candidate for dental implants?

Many adults with missing teeth are candidates for implants, but the only way to know for sure is a thorough evaluation. We look at the health of your gums, the amount and quality of your jawbone, your bite, and your overall oral health before recommending a plan.

If bone has thinned since a tooth was lost, that does not automatically rule you out. We offer bone grafting to rebuild areas that need more support, and sinus lift surgery for upper back teeth where the sinus sits close to the jaw. Active gum disease is something we address first, and we provide gum disease treatment, scaling and root planing, and periodontal surgery to create a healthy foundation. If a damaged tooth still needs to come out, we perform both simple and surgical extractions as part of the same plan.

How do I care for my implants, and what results can I expect?

Implants are cared for much like natural teeth, with daily brushing, cleaning between teeth, and regular professional visits. Although an implant cannot get a cavity, the gums and bone around it still need attention to stay healthy.

That is why we provide dedicated implant maintenance and periodontal maintenance visits as part of your long-term care. During these appointments, we check the tissues around your implant, clean areas that are hard to reach at home, and catch small concerns early. If you clench or grind, we may discuss a night guard to help protect your restoration. Results vary from person to person, and we will talk honestly with you about what to expect for your specific situation during your consultation.

How can I pay for dental implants?

We accept all major PPO insurance plans and welcome self-pay patients, and financing is available to help make treatment more manageable. Coverage for implants varies widely between plans, so we review your benefits with you before treatment begins.

Once your plan is set, we will walk you through the costs of each phase so there are no surprises. If a full arch or multi-step treatment feels like a large investment, financing can allow you to move forward without waiting.

Whether you are missing one tooth or many, we would be glad to sit down with you, answer your questions, and map out your options. Reach out to our Thousand Oaks office to schedule your implant consultation. We look forward to helping you smile and chew with confidence again.
