Wisdom Teeth Removal in Moorpark

It often starts with a dull ache at the back of the jaw. Maybe your gums feel tender behind your last molars, or flossing back there has become impossible. Sometimes there's no pain at all, and an X-ray at a routine checkup shows a tooth coming in sideways. For many Moorpark families, these moments lead to the same question: do the wisdom teeth need to come out? At 805 Dentistry, we help patients from Moorpark and across the surrounding communities answer that question and handle the treatment under one roof.
Wisdom teeth are the third set of molars, the last teeth to develop at the very back of the mouth. Some people have plenty of room for them. Many don't, and the teeth end up impacted, which means they are trapped under the gum or bone, angled against neighboring teeth, or only partly erupted.
Removal is a form of oral surgery. Depending on how a tooth sits, we perform either a simple extraction or a surgical extraction. A fully erupted wisdom tooth can often be removed much like any other tooth. An impacted one usually needs a surgical approach to reach it safely. Our office includes oral and maxillofacial surgery services, and patients can schedule without a referral.
We don't guess about what's happening below the gumline. Our practice provides CBCT imaging along with 2D and 3D dental imaging, and we have a board-certified oral and maxillofacial radiologist on staff who interprets scans for impacted teeth and oral pathology.
This matters because wisdom teeth vary widely from patient to patient. A 3D view helps us see the angle of each tooth, how it relates to the surrounding bone and neighboring molars, and whether anything else needs attention. With that detail, we can plan your extraction and explain exactly what we're seeing before any treatment begins.
Who is a good candidate for wisdom teeth removal?
Anyone whose wisdom teeth are causing problems, or whose imaging shows they are likely to, may be a candidate. We treat both teens and adults. Situations that commonly bring Moorpark patients to us include:
- Pain, swelling, or tenderness at the back of the jaw
- Teeth that are partly erupted and hard to keep clean
- Impacted teeth found on X-rays or 3D scans
- Wisdom teeth crowding or pressing against neighboring molars
- Planning around orthodontic treatment, since we also offer braces and clear aligners
Not everyone needs their wisdom teeth out. If yours are healthy, fully erupted, and easy to clean, we may simply keep an eye on them at your regular exams. Our goal is a recommendation based on your scans and your symptoms, not a one-size-fits-all rule.
Will I be awake during the procedure?
That's up to you and your needs. We have a board-certified dental anesthesiologist on staff, and we offer several sedation options: nitrous oxide, oral sedation, IV sedation, and general anesthesia.
Patients with dental anxiety, or those having several impacted teeth removed in one visit, often prefer a deeper level of sedation. Others are comfortable with local numbing and a little nitrous. We'll review your health history, talk through each option, and help you choose the approach that fits the complexity of your case and your comfort level.
What happens on the day of my extraction, and how do I recover?
On treatment day, we confirm your plan, administer your chosen anesthesia, and remove the tooth or teeth using the approach mapped out from your imaging. Surgical extractions may involve gently accessing the tooth through the gum. Once the teeth are out, we explain your care instructions and make sure you're ready to head home. If you've had IV sedation or general anesthesia, plan to have someone drive you back to Moorpark.
Recovery usually means a few days of taking it easy, with soft foods and gentle care around the extraction sites. We'll give you guidance specific to your procedure. If something doesn't feel right during healing, call us. Our general dentistry office offers emergency dental appointments, so we can see you when concerns come up.
How can I pay for wisdom teeth removal?
We accept all major PPO insurance plans, and we also welcome self-pay patients. If you have PPO coverage, our team will work with your plan so you understand what to expect before treatment.
Financing is also available for patients who want to spread out the cost. Ask us at your consultation and we'll go over your options along with your treatment plan.
Because 805 Dentistry, led by Dr. Dar Radfar, DDS, also provides cleanings, exams, orthodontics, and children's dentistry, Moorpark families can keep wisdom teeth care in the same office they already trust for everyday dental needs. Contact our team to schedule your evaluation.
