Maybe you've noticed your teeth have started to drift since you stopped wearing a retainer. Maybe your child's adult teeth are coming in crowded, or you've just moved to the Thousand Oaks area partway through treatment and need someone to pick up where your last provider left off. These are the situations we see most often in orthodontics at 805 Dentistry. Our goal is to help you understand your options clearly so you can decide what fits your life, your smile, and your budget.

Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry that moves teeth into better positions over time. We offer general orthodontics as part of our family practice, which means straightening care happens in the same office where you already get your cleanings, exams, and other dental work. For many families, that matters. You don't need to coordinate with a separate office or start over with a new team. Our dentists already know your dental history.

We provide two main approaches. Traditional metal braces use brackets and wires to guide teeth gradually, and they remain a dependable choice for many patients. Clear aligners, including Invisalign, use a series of removable, nearly invisible trays that shift teeth step by step. Both have their place, and the right one depends on your bite, your goals, and how you prefer to manage treatment day to day.

We treat both children and adults. That covers a wide range of needs. A parent might want an evaluation for a child with crowded or spaced teeth. A teenager might be ready for braces. An adult might want to straighten teeth they've been self-conscious about for years.

We also help patients in some situations that other offices may turn away. We accept orthodontic transfer patients, so if you relocated to Simi Valley, Camarillo, Westlake Village, or elsewhere nearby in the middle of treatment, we can continue your care. We also provide retainers for patients treated elsewhere. If you finished braces years ago and lost or broke your retainer, you can come to us for a replacement without having been our orthodontic patient originally.

Should I choose braces or clear aligners?

The better choice depends on your situation, and we'll help you weigh it honestly during your consultation. Clear aligners appeal to adults and older teens who want a discreet option and the freedom to remove trays for meals and brushing. They do require discipline, because aligners only work when you actually wear them as directed.

Traditional braces stay in place full-time, so there's nothing to remember to put back in. That makes them a practical fit for younger patients and for anyone who would rather not manage removable trays. We'll look at your teeth and bite and talk through how each option fits your daily routine before you commit.

What happens after my teeth are straightened?

Your teeth are straight, but you'll still need a retainer to keep them that way. Teeth naturally tend to shift back toward their original positions, especially in the months right after treatment ends. Wearing your retainer as instructed is the single most important thing you can do to protect your results.

Once treatment is complete, we'll fit you with a retainer and explain how often to wear it. Ongoing care matters too. Straighter teeth are often easier to brush and floss, and regular cleanings and exams with our team help keep your teeth and gums healthy for the long term. Common reasons to stay on top of retainer wear include:

  • Preventing gradual shifting that can undo months of progress
  • Avoiding the need to repeat treatment later
  • Keeping your bite stable as your mouth settles

If your retainer is ever lost or damaged, contact us promptly so we can replace it before your teeth have a chance to move.

How do I pay for orthodontic treatment?

We work with several payment options so cost doesn't stand in the way of care. We accept all major PPO insurance plans, and we file orthodontic claims as a general practitioner. Coverage varies from plan to plan, so our team can help you understand what your benefits may include before you begin.

If you don't have insurance, we welcome self-pay patients. We also offer financing, which can make treatment more manageable by spreading the cost over time. We'll go over the details with you so there are no surprises.

How do I get started?

Start by scheduling a consultation with our team in Thousand Oaks. We'll examine your teeth, listen to what you'd like to change, and explain which approach makes sense for you or your child. We see families from Newbury Park, Moorpark, Agoura Hills, Oxnard, Ventura, and across the surrounding communities, and we'd be glad to help you take the next step. Call our office or request an appointment today, and let's talk about the smile you've been wanting.
