A toothache that keeps you up at night, a cracked molar that makes every meal uncomfortable, or a wisdom tooth crowding its neighbors can take over your whole day. When a tooth can no longer be saved, or when keeping it would cause more trouble than it solves, removing it is often the most practical way to get back to eating, sleeping, and smiling comfortably. At 805 Dentistry, we care for patients from Camarillo and across the surrounding communities. We explain every option clearly before recommending an extraction, so you understand exactly why it may be the right step.

A tooth extraction is the careful removal of a tooth from its socket in the jawbone. We always look at ways to preserve a natural tooth first. Our team includes a board-certified endodontist who performs root canal therapy and retreatments. Sometimes, though, a tooth is too damaged, too infected, or too poorly positioned to keep. In those cases, an extraction can relieve pain, stop an infection from spreading, and protect the healthy teeth around it.

Our Camarillo patients come to us with a wide range of situations. A tooth may be broken below the gumline or decayed beyond what a filling or crown can repair. It may be loosened by advanced gum disease. Some patients have wisdom teeth that are impacted or only partly erupted. Others have crowding that must be addressed before orthodontic treatment with braces or clear aligners. Because we see children and adults of all ages, we also help younger patients whose baby teeth are not falling out on schedule.

We offer two types of extraction, and the right one depends on how the tooth sits in your mouth. A simple extraction is used for a tooth that is fully visible above the gumline. After numbing the area, we gently loosen the tooth and lift it out. This approach often suits teeth that have erupted normally but are badly decayed, cracked, or loose.

A surgical extraction is used when a tooth is harder to reach. Examples include an impacted wisdom tooth, a tooth broken off at the gumline, or a tooth with curved or unusually long roots. We may make a small opening in the gum, and sometimes we divide the tooth into sections so it can be removed with less force. Before deciding between the two approaches, we can use CBCT imaging and 2D or 3D dental imaging to see roots, bone, and nearby structures. Our board-certified oral and maxillofacial radiologist can interpret scans for impacted teeth, which helps us plan each case with care.

What happens during my extraction appointment?

Your appointment begins with an exam and imaging so we can confirm the plan and answer your questions. If dental work makes you anxious, we offer sedation options delivered by our board-certified dental anesthesiologist. Here is what you can generally expect:

  • A review of your health history and the imaging of your tooth
  • Thorough numbing of the area, with nitrous, oral sedation, IV sedation, or general anesthesia available when appropriate
  • Gentle removal of the tooth using the simple or surgical approach
  • Gauze placed to help a protective blood clot form
  • Clear written aftercare instructions before you leave

We also offer emergency dental appointments. If a broken or painful tooth catches you off guard, Camarillo patients can call us to be seen promptly instead of waiting in discomfort.

How do I care for my mouth afterward?

Most recovery comes down to protecting the blood clot and keeping the area clean. For the first day or so, follow our instructions closely. That usually means resting, biting gently on gauze, and avoiding vigorous rinsing, spitting, or using straws, any of which can disturb the healing site.

We will tell you when you can return to your normal brushing routine and which soft foods are best while you heal. If you notice anything that concerns you, call our office and our team will help. Once you have healed, we can talk about replacing the tooth if needed. We offer dental implants, bridges, and partial or complete dentures, along with bone grafting when the site needs extra support.

How can I pay for my extraction?

We accept all major PPO insurance plans, and our team can help you understand your coverage before treatment. Patients without insurance are welcome too, since we accept self-pay and cash payment.

Financing is also available, so you can address a painful or problem tooth now rather than putting off care because of cost. Whether you are dealing with a sudden emergency or planning a wisdom tooth removal, Camarillo families can contact 805 Dentistry to schedule a visit and get clear answers about their options.
