Bridges in Oxnard

A missing tooth can make chewing on one side feel awkward, change how you smile in photos, and leave the neighboring teeth without the support they once had. If you're in Oxnard and living with a gap after an extraction, an injury, or a tooth that simply couldn't be saved, a dental bridge may be a dependable way to fill that space. At 805 Dentistry, we help patients from Oxnard and across Ventura County restore their smiles with bridges designed to look natural and function comfortably.
A dental bridge is a fixed restoration that "bridges" the space left by one or more missing teeth. A traditional bridge uses crowns placed on the healthy teeth on either side of the gap. Those teeth are called abutments, and they anchor a replacement tooth, called a pontic, that sits in the empty space. Unlike a removable partial denture, a bridge stays in place. You brush and care for it rather than taking it out each night.
We also offer implant-supported bridges. Instead of relying on natural teeth for support, this type of bridge is anchored by dental implants. It can be a strong option when several teeth in a row are missing, or when the neighboring teeth are healthy and we'd prefer not to reshape them. Our team places dental implants, and our board-certified periodontist brings focused experience with implants and the gum tissue that surrounds them.
Many Oxnard patients come to us after losing a tooth to decay, a crack, or gum disease. Others have lived with a gap for years and are ready to address it. Bridges can help in a range of situations:
- Replacing a single missing tooth between two teeth that would benefit from crowns
- Filling a space where two or more adjacent teeth are missing, often with implant support
- Restoring chewing comfort on a side of the mouth you've been avoiding
- Helping keep nearby teeth from drifting into the open space
- Improving the appearance of your smile when the gap is visible
Because we're a family practice that cares for children and adults, we often plan tooth replacement as part of a larger picture. That plan may include gum disease treatment first, a root canal on a nearby tooth, or a comparison of bridges with partial dentures or implants so you can choose what fits your needs.
Am I a good candidate for a dental bridge?
You may be a good candidate if you're missing one or more teeth and have healthy gums and enough support from neighboring teeth or the jawbone. The only way to know for sure is an exam. During your visit, Dr. Dar Radfar and our team will look at the teeth beside the gap, check your gum health, and review your bite.
We provide 2D and 3D dental imaging, including CBCT imaging, along with a board-certified oral and maxillofacial radiologist on staff. These images help us see the bone and surrounding structures, which is especially useful when we're deciding whether an implant-supported bridge makes sense. If gum disease is present, our periodontal team can treat it before we restore the area.
What happens during the bridge process?
The process usually begins with a consultation and imaging, followed by preparation of the supporting teeth or placement of implants. For a traditional bridge, we gently reshape the abutment teeth so the crowns can fit over them. Then we take impressions and place a temporary bridge to protect the area.
Our office has an on-site dental lab, which lets us coordinate closely on the fit, shape, and shade of your restoration. Once your final bridge is ready, we check the fit and bite carefully before securing it. If you feel nervous about dental work, we offer nitrous oxide, oral sedation, and IV sedation, and our board-certified dental anesthesiologist can help keep you comfortable.
How do I care for my bridge once it's in place?
You care for a bridge much like your natural teeth, with daily brushing, flossing, and regular checkups. The area beneath the replacement tooth needs extra attention. We'll show you how to clean under it with floss threaders or similar tools so food and plaque don't build up.
Routine cleanings and exams let us monitor the supporting teeth and gums over time. For implant-supported bridges, we also provide implant maintenance and periodontal care. If you grind your teeth at night, a custom night guard can help protect your restoration. If something ever feels loose or uncomfortable, we offer emergency dental appointments.
How can I pay for a dental bridge?
We accept all major PPO insurance plans, and we welcome self-pay patients as well. Our team can review your coverage and explain your estimated costs before treatment begins, so you know what to expect.
We also offer financing to help spread the cost of your bridge over time. Many Oxnard families choose our office because we can handle so much of their care in one place, from cleanings and fillings to implants and specialty treatment.
