Sinus Lift Surgery in Ventura

Sinus Lift Surgery in Ventura

If you have been told you need a dental implant in your upper back jaw, but there isn't enough bone to hold it, you may have heard the term sinus lift surgery for the first time. Many patients from Ventura come to us at that point with good questions about what the procedure involves and why it matters. At 805 Dentistry, our Thousand Oaks office brings implant planning, bone grafting, advanced imaging, and sedation together under one roof. That lets Ventura patients move from evaluation through healing with one familiar team.

A sinus lift, also called a sinus augmentation, adds bone to the upper jaw in the area of the molars and premolars. Your maxillary sinuses are air-filled spaces that sit just above the roots of your upper back teeth. After a tooth is lost, the bone in that area can thin over time, and the sinus floor can sit lower than before. The result is often too little bone height to anchor an implant securely.

During the procedure, the sinus membrane is gently lifted upward. Bone grafting material is placed in the space created beneath it. As the graft integrates with your natural bone, it builds a stronger foundation for a future implant. Because we offer both sinus lift surgery and dental implants, we can plan the graft with your final tooth replacement in mind from the start.

Your first visit begins with a conversation about your goals, your dental history, and the tooth or teeth you want to replace. Detailed imaging is central to this step. Our office provides CBCT imaging and both 2D and 3D dental imaging, and we have a board-certified oral and maxillofacial radiologist on staff. A 3D scan shows the height and width of your bone and the position of your sinus far more clearly than a standard X-ray, which helps us decide whether a sinus lift is needed at all.

Patients from Ventura do not need a referral to see us for an evaluation. Our oral surgery services accept patients directly, as do our periodontics and radiology services. That means you can schedule your consultation and get answers about your specific situation without waiting on another office first.

Who is a good candidate for a sinus lift?

You may be a good candidate if you want an implant in your upper back jaw but don't have enough bone to support it. This often happens after a tooth has been missing for a while. It can also follow gum disease that affected the supporting bone, or occur in patients whose sinus naturally sits close to the jaw.

A sinus lift may come up in several situations:

  • Replacing a single upper molar or premolar with an implant
  • Restoring several upper back teeth with an implant-supported bridge
  • Planning full arch options such as All-on-4, All-on-6, or All-on-X implants
  • Supporting implant-supported or snap-in dentures in the upper jaw

Not every implant patient needs this procedure. Your imaging and exam guide that decision. Our team includes a board-certified periodontist who places dental implants, performs bone and gum procedures, and provides implant maintenance. We will explain your options clearly so you understand why a graft is or isn't recommended.

What happens during the procedure, and will I be comfortable?

We perform the procedure in our office, and your comfort is a priority at every step. After the area is numbed, we access the sinus floor, lift the membrane, and place the graft material. The site is then closed so healing can begin.

If you feel anxious about oral surgery, you are not alone. We have a board-certified dental anesthesiologist on staff. We offer nitrous oxide, oral sedation, IV sedation, and general anesthesia. Together, we can choose the level of sedation that fits your needs and your health history, so many patients can approach treatment with more ease.

What is recovery like after a sinus lift?

Most patients go home the same day with detailed aftercare instructions. Some swelling and tenderness are common in the first days. We will guide you on medications, diet, and oral hygiene around the surgical site.

Because the graft sits beneath your sinus, protecting the area matters. We typically advise against forceful nose blowing, and we may suggest other precautions while the site heals. The graft needs time to mature before an implant can be placed, so we will schedule follow-up visits to check your progress. Our on-site dental lab supports the restoration stage once you are ready for your new tooth.

How can I pay for sinus lift surgery?

We accept all major PPO insurance plans and will help you understand how your coverage may apply. We also welcome self-pay patients.

Because sinus lift surgery is often one step in a larger implant plan, we review the full treatment sequence and costs with you before you begin. Financing is available to help spread out payments. That gives Ventura families a practical way to move forward with care led by Dr. Dar Radfar, DDS, and our team.
